Star Kevin Scott
Dr. Kevin Scott is a Senior Academic Writing Consultant and Associate Graduate Faculty at Baylor University. Before moving to Waco to pursue a Ph.D. at Baylor, Kevin grew up in Gates County, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree with honors, and Wake Forest University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Religious Studies. While in North Carolina, he worked at the Raleigh Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter that equips individuals experiencing homelessness to live into their unique purpose. Kevin’s research focuses on the prophetic literature of the Old Testament and the intersection of religious studies and disability studies. His interests include traveling internationally, sports of all kinds, mid-2000s rap music, being the person on the trivia team who shows up and talks to everyone instead of answering any questions, and, most importantly, spending time with his beloved cat, Rupert.
Pro Kara Quinn
Kara Quinn is an instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studios of Waco. As a child, Kara started dancing jazz and tap, but sought out any opportunity to move and ventured into cheerleading, drill team, and musical theatre as well. As a teenager, she started learning country swing, 2-step, and shuffle, which eventually led her into the ballroom world where she never looked back. This is her first time competing in Dancing with the Waco Stars and she is thrilled to be a part of it!
As a ballroom instructor, Kara teaches couples and singles various forms of partner dancing, including smooth, rhythm, swing, Latin, country, and more. Her goal is for her students to never sit out from dancing because they don't know what to do, but for them to be able to dance to any song that plays! She believes that the joy of social dancing should be shared far and wide and wants everyone to know that it is something they are capable of learning at any age.
When asked her favorite dance style, Kara says it's always "whatever she danced most recently," so that can change at any minute - but she favors rhythm and Latin dances. When she is not dancing, Kara is an avid reader and also enjoys playing pickleball.
