GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:
The Communications Intern will support the Director of Development in promoting the mission, programs, and services of the Family Abuse Center through digital media, social platforms, and community outreach efforts.
TIME REQUIREMENTS:
- One (1) semester (Summer, Fall 2026)
- About 10 – 20 hours per week; flexible
- FAC Staff Meetings first Wednesday of the month at 2 pm (Encouraged)
- Prior experience in social media, marketing, communications, or content creation is preferred but not required
- Occasional weekends depending on scheduled activities
- Occasional evenings depending on scheduled activities
Education/Experience:
- Junior or Senior preferred
- Media, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, and/or related fields
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe, or similar design tools is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks
- Creative Thinker with a passion for storytelling and community impact
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Sensitive to confidential and trauma-informed environments
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with managing and scheduling social media content
- Manage FAC One password account
- Create graphics, captions, and basic marketing materials for all FAC campaigns
- Help capture and share stories that highlight FAC’s programs and impact
- Monitor social media engagement and assist with reporting analytics
- Assist with newsletters, email campaigns, and website updates
- Support community outreach events and promotional efforts as needed
- Maintain organized media files and content calendars
