Rural Outreach and Education
In an effort to reach out to all people affected by violence, Family Abuse Center (FAC) provides community education and outreach to people in the following counties:
- Bosque
- Falls
- Freestone
- Hill
- Limestone
- McLennan
- Navarro
Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, family violence, or spousal abuse, affects both men and women of any age, race, income level, faith, sexual orientation, ability, or gender identity.
Domestic violence is
not a result of being angry, drug use, or arguing. It is a pattern of manipulative and controlling behaviors that increases in frequency and severity. Friends, family members, and communities can help. Becoming informed is the first step.
To prevent abuse from occurring, FAC offers one-time or multi-session, interactive, educational presentations to provide information on what domestic violence is, what causes it, how to help victims, and how to prevent violence in the community. These educational opportunities are free of cost to groups within our service area and can be catered to meet your organization’s needs. Examples of specific addressable topics include, but are not limited to:
- FAC programs
- Dynamics of abuse
- Cultural responses to violence
- Violence in LGBT relationships
- The legal process for survivors
- Links between oppression and violence
- Effects on men as victims and bystanders
- Teen dating violence
- Effects of violence on children
- How to intervene safely on an individual, group, and/or community level
- Domestic violence with older adults and people with disabilities
- Violence in rural areas
FAC can also provide multi-session workshops for individuals of all ages to learn how they can actually help stop violence in their homes and communities. These groups are based off of evidence-based curriculums and are suitable for a variety of locations including:
- Schools
- Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, and other faith-related entities
- Service leagues
- Civic organizations
- Anywhere else where people gather
