Rural Outreach Volunteers


Family Abuse Center (FAC) Representative


Volunteer will attend meetings including: Community Resource Coordination Groups, Health in Action Coalition, and other standing meetings in multiple counties alongside the Rural Advocate.



Key skills/abilities include:
  • Ability to represent FAC in a professional manner

  • Ability to communicate with other service providers and maintain on-going relationships in a professional manner

  • Professional dress and behavior

Prevention Facilitator


Volunteer will help develop a curriculum for primary prevention groups, advertise and establish groups, and facilitate those groups with the Rural Advocate.



Key skills/abilities include:
  • Understanding factors that lead to a culture of violence, and how different forms of violence interact with partner violence

  • Ability to communicate clearly with staff, community members, and group participants

Rural Services Coordinator


Volunteer will work with Rural Advocate to compile a directory of services for each of our six rural counties. This directory will assist victims and survivors in identifying resources to fill their needs, as well as advocates in their work.



Key skills/abilities include:
  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to use a computer and a telephone to conduct research

  • Knowledge of community resources

Rural Researcher


Volunteer will conduct literature reviews and other forms of research to identify the best ways to work with rural victims, rural service providers, and other rural community members.



Key skills/abilities include:
  • High level of independence

  • Interest in research

  • Access to research database

Community Educator


Volunteer will assist Rural Advocate in preparing and conducting Community Education presentations. Presentations topics primarily include an introduction to intimate partner violence and FAC services.



Key skills/abilities include:
  • Experience in public speaking

  • Ability to communicate clearly in a professional manner

  • Understanding of FAC services and role

  • Understanding of intimate partner violence and its effect on communities

Outreach Worker


Volunteer will identify places in rural counties that victims would access brochures and flyers, and keep these locations stocked with FAC information. Volunteer may also work to write editorials, radio announcements, and other forms of outreach for the rural area.



Key skills/abilities include:
  • Transportation

  • Ability to communicate clearly in order to obtain permission to display advertisements

Administrative Assistant


Volunteer will help with clerical duties, including, but not limited to: filing, shredding, copying brochures, and ordering pamphlets and other resources.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with staff and other professionals
