Crisis Line Advocate Job Description


Crisis Line Advocates are valuable volunteers who assist with answering crisis calls received at Family Abuse Center (FAC) from victims/survivors of domestic violence or their friends/family. These volunteers are given specialized training provided by FAC staff in order to appropriately address the needs and concerns of victims calling the agency for services or support. With opportunities to help during the morning, afternoon, and evening, these volunteers will provide critical assistance and information to survivors. Due to the vulnerability of survivors served by FAC, anyone interested in serving as a Crisis Line Advocate for FAC must successfully complete the following prerequisites:



Prerequisites:

  • Volunteer Application

  • Background Check

  • Confidentiality Form

  • Crisis Line Training

  • Post-Training Interview


Crisis Line Advocates will answer crisis calls regarding:

  • Safety Planning

  • Residential & Non-Residential Services offered by the agency

  • Community Referrals

  • Shelter Command Center Duties (secondary to crisis calls)


Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrates a competent understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and the topics addressed in training

  • Demonstrates the ability to navigate a crisis situation

  • Strong verbal communication & active listening skills

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrates personal self-awareness and sensitivity
